Membership & Development Lead, The Democracy Network.

Involve hosts The Democracy Network, a network of people and organisations working on issues of power, democracy and voice across Great Britain and Northern Ireland. We support each other to connect and collaborate, share and learn, and take action and influence decision makers with the aim of building a stronger UK democracy.

Involve is the UK’s leading public participation charity; we work to build a more vibrant democracy, with people at the heart of decision-making. Involve is at the vanguard of changing our democracy. Combining innovation, advocacy and hands-on delivery, we are showing exactly what our democratic future holds.

The primary purpose of this role is to develop a trusted, strong, diverse and well-functioning Democracy Network, with high engagement in network activities and an expanding reach to new groups. As the Democracy Network membership and development lead, you will be responsible for supporting and expanding the Democracy Network with a clear focus on membership development, recruitment and retention, as well as connecting people with others for potential collaboration.

To succeed, you will need to have excellent organisation and communications skills. You will be organised and self motivated and be able to manage competing priorities. You will need to be good at building trusting relationships with a range of people. And you will need to be proactive, seeking out opportunities to build new relationships, support our members and ensure those working on issues of democracy are well connected with one another.

You will be hosted and employed at Involve and line managed by the Network Coordinator. We have physical offices in London and Belfast which are always available to work in. We are flexible in terms of either working from home, or working hybrid from home and a physical office. However the successful candidate must be able to travel to attend network activities. This will involve travel across the UK to different locations where Network organisations are based, for face-to-face events, conferences and meetings.

We encourage applications from candidates who are Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME), working class candidates, and those with disabilities, as these groups are underrepresented throughout the democracy sector.
