October 2019 to December 2020

The Citizens’ Assembly of Scotland is bringing together over 100 people from across Scotland to help shape the country’s future.

The 100 citizens', who are broadly representative of the country, are coming together to address the following three questions:

  • What kind of country are we seeking to build?

  • How best can we overcome the challenges Scotland and the world face in the 21st century, including those arising from Brexit?

  • What further work should be carried out to give us the information we need to make informed choices about the future of the country?

The citizens' assembly met face-to-face four times between October 2019 and February 2020. With the arrival of Covid-19, the remaining sessions of the assembly have been moved online.

What we did

Between summer 2019 and spring 2020, Involve's Head of Democratic Innovation, Kaela Scott, was seconded to the secretariat of the citizens' assembly to provide advice and support in developing governance procedures, establishing the role of the Convener for the assembly, recruitment of participants, establishing design and reporting principles and overseeing the design and facilitation. Involve's director, Tim Hughes, has also been a member of the design team, led by the Democratic Society.
